From Northeast Sports
head down Main Street (North) until you see Chapel
Street. Turn left onto Chapel Street and make your
first left onto Commercial Street. Follow Commercial
Street past Saint John’s Church. Follow the Blue
path for a short jaunt on 191 then take a left onto
Erie Street and soon you will hit Bucks Cove Road.
Once you have moved out of the bustling small town
of Honesdale and onto Bucks Cove Road it’s time to
enjoy the beauty of the Wayne County countryside.
Bucks Cove is a typical dirt, country road that
meanders through middle Wayne County. Once you get
deep into the ride you can understand why some many
people have become “hooked” on living in this area
of the state.
As you look to the left
you can get a good view of the Lackawaxen River at
several points along the ride. If you need a
recreational side track – follow the White Mills
Road to the ball park. There is plenty of space to
lie out and have a lunch or head down to put your
feet in the river.
When you come to the end
of Bucks Cove road Make a right and head up into
Cherry Ridge. If you were looking for an easy
beginner or casual, laid back ride make a big U-turn
and head back down Bucks Cove. For those that like
to be challenged keep going your climb lays before
you. After enduring the ups and downs of the Cherry
Ridge hills you may be tempted to ask yourself why –
but the rewards will soon be laid out before you.
Once well established on the hilltops of Cherry
ridge a beautiful and spectacular vista of
continuous rolling farmlands, fields, and the
occasional cow will be waiting to embrace your
senses.
One of the great
destinations along the way to look out for down
Wangum Falls are a really nice set of waterfalls.
Further down the road you will swing by Rickard’s
Cider Mill. This is a fully operational apple cider
press. During the crisp days of late September or
early October be certain to stop by and pick up a
little for the trip home. Autumn here is really
spectacular.
This ride consists of
both paved and dirt portions so make sure you are up
for the treat. The ride is packed with rolling hills
and some mid-level climbs (Wayne county is anything
BUT flat).
The ride will soon offer
yet another decision, at the intersection of the
blue and yellow tracks you have the option extend
the duration of your adventure and enjoy more of the
Wayne County scenery. Remaining on the Blue Track
will take you past Tick Toc’s restaurant. Tick Toc’s
is a local landmark that features great food and
fine spirits. Be sure to stop in fill up your
stomach because the end of your ride is just at the
bottom of a long decent (about a mile) back into
town and your parked car.
If you choose to take
the extended version and enjoy some great scenery
follow the Yellow Track and turn onto the Red. This
track will take you down a long decent in to the
sleepy little village of Seelyville. Lying before
you is another quaint waterfall that was part of the
power system of a long abandoned textile mill.
Follow the track and hang a quick right and you will
be heading back into town after a few very short
miles.
Remember if you have any
questions call or stop in and ask any of the gang at
the store. We would be more than happy to help you
out with anything we can.
